Julian MacDonald, a Welch fashion designer, studied fashion knitwear at the University of Brighton and he received an MA at the Royal College of Art In London. MacDonald has won several prestigious awards including The British Glamour Designer of the Year as well as GQ’s Womenswear Designer of the Year (both in 2003). He was also appointed successor to Alexander McQueen as Fashion Director with Givenchy designing both Haute Couture and Ready-To-Wear collections. In addition, in 2006, MacDonald was awarded the honour of an OBE for is service to fashion industry.

If you are planning a wedding around Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day it’s especially important to pick a very experienced florist and plan well ahead. 3. Do pick a florist who is enthusiastic about their work and about your wedding, they probably see a lot of couples but if you don’t get their undivided attention and be made to feel special then it’s time to walk away. 4. Don’t be scared to ask for a few meetings as things progress, great weddings are a work in progress, they evolve in the planning and the flowers should too. 5. Do check out your potential florist’s Facebook and Twitter pages, are there lots of photographs of weddings, are they proud of their work, what’s the feedback from previous wedding couples? 6. So here are our tips to consider when ordering a bouquet of flowers for a graduation or presentation: 1. Keep in the back of your mind that these flowers are going to be photographed – so tell your florist. This is why we at Venus Flowers arrange and present the bouquets in such a way that all that every stem will be seen when held in your arms. 2. If you know she likes pink then tell us. If they like tropicals then tell us. If you want as many colours as possible then tell us. 3. If the graduation is the same day then you want flowers that have just started to open rather than completely closed. 4. These bouquets tend not to be in water so as soon as you get them home, recut and submerge in water. 5. Make sure you take plenty pictures and tweet and post your pictures on facebook so we can see how our flowers have helped make a special day a bit more special!

International kissing day

Tomorrow, the 6^th of July is International kissing day. Its origins are unclear – legend has it a dentist office invented it as part of a publicity campaign – it is now celebrated in countries all over the world. The longest kiss on record lasted 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds on 12^th - 14^th February 2013. The first onscreen kiss was shot in 1896 and caused protests upon the film’s release, and the film with the most kisses is still 1926’s Don Juan with 127. Until 1968 in American films, couples were only allowed to kiss for a few seconds at a time and if a couple was shown kissing on a bed there had to be at least 1 foot on the floor.
